More Building at Stonefields

Here we are looking at the earthworks...

Do you know what type of machine this is?

Can you see what they've done to pop this little building in?

I wonder what's inside the office?

Kush reads to the Hub

Today I read Gabby & Grandma Go Green to the children and I felt good.  I felt good because I was the teacher.  I have been practicing reading this book so I will be able to be good at reading it.

It is a book about green projects and I am learning what that means.

At the end of Green Day

At the end of our Green Day we sung this song to the rest of the school. Can you sing it at home?

We also did a reflection for assembly.  We decided on what we wanted to say and had a little practice...

Here's Henry, Riley, Charlie S. and Dylan talking in assembly about our green day:

Green Day!!!

Green day has begun at Stonefields School!!!

The children are all arriving in their green costumes and we're excited for the parade at 9.10.

Keep checking the blog for updates throughout the day!

What do you do outside of school?

Caleb's emailed through these awesome pictures of him at soccer!

Do you play any sports?  Do you dance?  Do you play an instrument?  We'd love to hear about the learning you do outside of school!

Break Through Round-up!

Dance Group:

Art Group:

Here's Charlie S. to share his art work and thinking with you...

Ariel and Sarah reading and translating in Mandarin

Yesterday our big buddies visited us again in LH1.  As many of us speak other languages, it can be a special time to connect and learn English through our first language.

Bagpuss

Mrs Jackson has introduced us all to a neat set of videos called Bagpuss - you might like to watch them on Youtube!

Break Through today!

Many groups have been putting a lot of time and effort into their Break Through projects this term and many are starting to come to an end.  Here's a bit of a Break Through round-up for you.

Building Group:

They have boats in Lego City and some bridges and houses and buildings.  To make the bridges we had to push the tables a little bit open and we put the bridges in the middle of them.  The bridges are used for the people that go to the boats and the cars.

Drama Group:

First showing...

After the first go, we shared some feedback.  We reflected and said that it might be more interesting if the different actors said and did things.  Do you agree?

So the group practiced and reflected some more to give this performance:

We reflected again and gave this feedback.  We liked the way that the actors said and did things when it was their turn and we liked how they spoke clearly.  We think their next steps could be to remember when it's their turn and they might like to practice more to help them remember.  Well done everyone!

The Kitty Ran Up the Tree: A song/poem!

Last week Emily, Mina and Carys read a poem called The Kitty Ran Up the Tree.  We made a connection that this poem matched the rhythm of a song from Alice in Wonderland.

What do you think?  Can you hear that same music?

Green Day Reminder

Hi Parents,

Just a reminder that next Wednesday is the dress up in Green Day to raise awareness about our environment and a gold coin donation to buy new propagation equipment for growing vegetables. There will be certificates and little prizes for the best Green Dressed child from each hub.

We hope you will support us,

Kind regards,
Mrs Jackson, Miss Campbell and the Enviro Team

Nicolas loves Shuffling! Do you like dancing?

I like dancing because I've been dancing hip hop since I was a little boy.  I like the music.

My favourite are Party Rockers and Justin Bieber and Gangnam Style.

My Awesome Writing by Kate

Yesterday I wrote a whole word in my writing.  I wrote about a sign and I used the words from the book.  I have been learning to write the first sounds in words.

I feel happy because I liked how I wrote it and I was determined.

Optional Home Learning Challenge.

This week in maths we have been learning about 2 D and 3 D shapes. We have built our knowledge of different shapes by learning their names and their properties. We are now making meaning by thinking and connecting what we know to sort, group and order the shapes.

When you go home can you ask for a selection of boxes tins etc from the kitchen cupboard and sort and group them, remember to explain how you have done this. Have fun.

Making shapes with Kaelan!

Today I made a 6-sided shape (which Miss Holland says is a hexagon) and then a octagon (which has 8 sides).  Then I thought and made this shape...

We thinks it's called a octagonal prism.  What do you think?

The New Build Begins...

Today while we were at fitness a big truck arrived to set out the fencing!  We're making signs and writing stories about signs.

What do you think signs are for?

We love Charlie and Lola!

Sometimes we watch Charlie and Lola on the computer.  Charlie and Lola are a brother and a sister and they do fun things.  They play together and they are good friends.  They are nice to their friends.

We like it because they are funny and they are fun.

Fun with Scrabble letters!

George, his brother, sister and mum have been very busy at home.  Here's George's mum to tell us more...

I had a look at the recent home learning challenges and George was very keen, but funnily enough I was not so keen to unleash the ink and food colouring in our house with younger siblings. Nevertheless I did love the website and from this we came up with the following as an alternative which George, Oscar & Addison can join in at different levels.

We have printed the Scrabble Tiles and laminated these and put them on the whiteboard. This will let George make words on the board, and as well as making words there is maths involved in adding up the total for the words. Oscar & Addison can have fun as well learning the alphabet.

What an awesome idea!  If you'd like to print and make your own scrabble tiles to use at home, you can get your free copy here:

Introducing Shapes in Maths

We have been doing shapes.  I have been tracing shapes like squares, triangles and circles.  They are flat shapes.  I feel good about doing shapes.
By Emily S.

We were collaborating.  We are making some shapes and working together.  We made the sides and we stuck the sticks together.  We never gave up.  We think it is a flat shape.  What do you think?  They are squares and we saw how the triangles compared when we did it.  We can make more shapes and make them bigger and bigger.
By Hunter, Leon and Anshul

Today Lily H. and Aurelia traced some shapes.  Between them they traced circles, rectangles, triangles, diamonds, squares and semi circles.  Lily also traced a pentagon and is going to learn the name of it.  Aurelia knows lots of shape names, do you?
